Creating Original Blog Content

Creating Original Blog Content

By Karen Barr

Creating original blog content for your business is possible. In fact, it is a necessity. By taking the time to present your readers with something novel, you will be rewarded with a dedicated following.

Like a well-prepared meal, every blog post you write should be crafted from scratch, with the special touches only you and your team can bring.

AI is being used for more than writing prompts. In some cases, it is used to write entire pages of content. The result is generic reading. Give your readers something better.

In this post, you’ll discover how I create original blog content. Then, you can implement these techniques for your blog

Read on!

Brainstorm For Ideas

Start by brainstorming. Write all your ideas for brainstorming down. Go with your first thoughts without editing anything out.

Next, write down a list of questions that your customers may ask. Think about solutions to problems they may be experiencing. What are their pain points? How can your products or services help?

Now, circle your best ideas. Is there a way to break that idea into several posts? Could you develop a series of educational posts about the same topic?

Share Your Perspective

The marketing bros will tell you there is only one way to do a task—the right way. This is not true. There are many ways to achieve the same end result.

Be a contributor. Share with your readers how you accomplish things. No one voice has all the answers, and best of all, the rules have changed.

Let me give you some examples. If you sell home décor, write content about how you decorate your home for Christmas. It doesn’t have to exemplify Vogue magazine. Share your family traditions; suddenly, you’ve given your readers a new perspective.

If you own a jewellery store, writing an article on how to repurpose old jewellery can include stories about pieces your clients have asked you to redesign. Maybe you’ve found a stunning way to layer necklaces. Share! Soon, your readers will love to read your blog.

Write Comparison Posts

A comparison post takes two or more items and lists the pros and cons of each. If you love reading magazines, you’ll see this frequently. In beauty articles, you may see titles like The Best Cleansers for Dry Skin or The Best Red Lipsticks for the Holiday Season.

Writing comparison posts also works well for retailers and e-commerce stores. Take products that you sell and write about them. But listing the pros ( and very few cons!) will help customers self-select the best products.

Why are comparison posts so popular? People often have trouble deciding which products to purchase, so they ask friends and family for opinions.

However, you have an authoritative voice as a business owner with a blog. Your readers will appreciate your opinions.

Share A Success Story

Has your company recently celebrated a success? All successes qualify—big or small. Share it with your customers

It begins by crafting a good before and after narrative. This can apply to anything.

Using the same example of a home décor shop, you could share how your shop looked before the new Christmas stock arrived. How did it look afterward?

Share tips on how you merchandised your store with your new products. Write about anything else you added. Did you buy a Christmas tree and decorate it with vintage bulbs? Did you add gold and silver streamers to the walls? Share it all.

Have you recently hosted an event like a trunk show at your women’s clothing store? Who were the vendors who presented their merchandise? How do these pieces represent fashion trends in the upcoming season?

Maybe you own a restaurant and have held a special event with a guest chef. It’s likely your readers would have seen advertising about the event. Not everyone would have had the opportunity to attend, so share the event. You’ll be creating original blog content that will entice the reader not to miss the next event.

Remember to repurpose your blog posts. To get the most value out of your original content, turn it into email marketing campaigns and social media posts. This is especially important when your blog post is not evergreen content.

Post An Interview

As a journalist, many of my articles contain multiple interviews. The reason this works is that each speaker is sharing their thoughts. This presents the reader with even more information to take away.

Is there someone in your company who would make an interesting interview subject? Do they have an interesting story to tell? How can you turn this into a blog post?

When I conduct interviews, I have a general list of questions, but leaving the question list open is beneficial. I’ve learned from multiple years of experience. The answer to one question may lead to a question I hadn’t thought to ask. This way, the conversation has a natural flow.

I like to tape conversations. This works well when I am presented with a lot of new information. Recently, I was on a tour at a vanilla bean plantation in Tahiti. I turned on the tape recorder on my phone to avoid missing out on any valuable education. Then, when I went to write the article for Bakers Journal, I had all the tips and quotes available to me.

Creating Original Blog Content

I always write about food and am invited to some fantastic restaurants. Recently, I visited three Los Angeles restaurants to interview the city’s top female pastry chefs. I love to sit, talk to the chefs and of course, eat! Taping the conversation works best.

Once you have gathered the information, write your blog post for your website. I guarantee you will be creating original blog content. In fact, it will be one of a kind!

In Conclusion

Using my techniques, such as brainstorming ideas, sharing your perspective, writing comparison posts, and sharing success stories and interviews, you’ll create original blog content that your readers will love.
